Traveling over the Holidays?

“Planning a trip over the river, and through the woods to Grandma’s house this holiday season? Traveling for the holidays can be busy, expensive, and stressful but it isn’t all bad. There are deals to be found, provided you plan and shop around. Here at Northview Harbor we have some travel tips to help you find some joy this holiday season!

  1.     The pre-game.

Comparison shopping has never been easier than it is right now. With access to sites like Expedia, Kayak, and Booking.com at the tip of your fingers a great deal is only minutes away. For many travelers, price isn’t the only or even most important factor. Use of “search adjacent days or airports” features found on many websites may also bring improved fares and travel times.  When booking flights, check your search results carefully for enough time during layovers, and build in some time for flight delays and weather woes. Peak travel times also bring peak travel delays. Avoiding tight connections might save you a sprint through an unfamiliar terminal and a missed flight.  Are we there yet?

       2. Pack and Go

The days of packing it all into your carry-on to avoid having to check any baggage have come to an end. With TSA rules about liquids and gels over 3.4 oz you will surely need to check at least one bag. Most airlines will let you check one bag without fee, but you will want to verify the weight limit of said “free checked bag” otherwise you could end up with extra fee’s you weren’t expecting.  During peak travel times you’ll face lines from security check points, traffic jams, and full parking lots to absent shuttles. Rather than aiming to arrive early at the airport, you’ll want to leave early for the airport to anticipate all the possible delays you may encounter during your holiday travel.   ARE WE THERE YET?

         3. The Final Countdown

It’s finally here. The night before you leave. Make sure you gas up the car, no one leaves enough time for buying gas on the way to the airport. Have phone numbers for everything: your hotel, your car rental agency, your airline, friends at your destination. Give your cell phone a full charge and download your airline’s app so you’ll get alerts in your flight is delayed or your gate changes. Most importantly make sure you get your full 8 hours of sleep in. With all the upcoming holiday festivities you’ll be sure to need every minute you can get!  YEAH WE ARE ALMOST THERE!

With a little preparation you are sure to have a wonderful holiday season this year!!!”
